This group covers Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and other Asian cuisines that are not Chinese, and the etiquette varies by kitchen. Japanese and Korean restaurants often take reservations for dinner and may add a service charge for large groups; Thai and Vietnamese spots are usually walk-in and quick-turnover. Spice levels are frequently adjustable on request at Thai, Indian and Sichuan-adjacent menus, so say if you want it mild or hot. Korean BBQ restaurants typically charge per person for all-you-can-eat service with a time limit, and grills are shared at the table. Vietnamese pho shops post bowl sizes (regular or large) and a plate of herbs, bean sprouts and lime is normal to add yourself. Card and tap-to-pay are widely accepted; cash-only is more common at small family-run counters.

Berkeley is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Berkeley follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

the appetizers were amazing, the fried tofu especially. flavors were bold, everyone had solid dishes, especially the khao soi and pad see ew (i’d say the dill fish was just ok, didn’t expect it to be fried). save space till the end with a coconut ice cream dessert with a savory crispy delicate finish.

If you’re looking for a great Thai restaurant in Berkeley, I highly recommend Praaw Thai. The restaurant has a very unique old Hong Kong style. The decorations are beautiful, and the atmosphere is cozy and fun. We loved every dish we ordered, especially the Tum Strawberry, Emily’s Dumplings, Homemade Gui Chai, Tau Huu, Nookie’s Ka-ree Koong, Kao Pad Mun Puu, and Dok Jok. Everything was full of flavor and very tasty. I forgot to take a picture of Emily’s Dumplings because we ate them right awayβ€”they were so good! The Thai iced coffee was also excellent. It was rich, smooth, and not too sweet, just the way I like it. Great food, great atmosphere, and friendly service. I will definitely come back and highly recommend this place!

Loved this place! It was packed when I visited, but the food came out much faster than I expected. The staff were warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere felt cozy and inviting. The portions were generous, and the flavors were authentic and delicious. Every dish we ordered was fantastic. Definitely worth the wait and I’ll be coming back next time I’m in Berkeley.

This dining spot is a must visit. The atmosphere is insanely strikes perfect balance of inviting and intimate. You go in and there’s never a wait, it’s a space where you hold convo without loud acoustics. The service is incredible, you can walk and settle in no wait time. The food is incredibly authentic and unique, blending Thai dishes with Chinese techniques. Each dish has a balance of bold, complex flavors that reminds me of Thailand. The chive cake pairs perfectly with Thai ice tea, while the crab egg fried rice is rich and creamy that goes perfectly with the pandan desert. The combo of flavors in khao soi is rich and coconuty, making the dish super filling and satisfying. I highly recommend planning your next visit to this place in your next Berkeley trip.
